Reverse Launching On Handles (Traction Kites)

A great advantage of four line flying is that you can re-launch from almost any position. Generally you'll find that the kite is either on its trailing edge, in which case re-launch is obvious, or on its leading edge (going towards the ground), making it less obvious. But if you can reverse the kite in the sky it logically follows that you can reverse launch it off the ground too. This is what's known as reverse launching.

Reverse Launching

With the kite on the ground, fully inflated standing on its leading edge, pull backwards (it may need you to walk backwards a few steps) with tension on the rear lines only. The kite should begin to rise backwards of the ground. You will often need to 'play' the handles to keep it going steadily.

Keep pulling back on the rear lines and as the kite rises, push one of the rear lines forward by pivoting the handle and the kite will pivot. It's easier to turn the kite up and away from the window centre rather than down towards it as the kite will tend to accelerate towards centre window and into the ground.

Once the kite is pointing straight up the window you can fly away or try another landing if that's what you were doing.
