Insurance
Kite sports have become a phenomenon in recent years. In 2001 this explosion of interest led to the formation of the Power Kite Sports Federation to represent all kite sports bodies in the UK. Its aim was to formulate a structure for the training and development of each discipline, promote safe kiting and represent the sport.
Membership to the Power Kite Sports Federation offers a blanket insurance policy that covers power kiting, buggying, kite landboarding, snow kiting and kitesurfing. All members receive a certificate and membership card that provides access to events and is universally recognised as proof of insurance.
Insurance – why bother and what does it cover?
Accidents are, by their very nature, unpredictable events. Despite this and as far as the law is concerned everyone is personally responsible and liable for his or her actions.
So if someone incurs liability for an accident they must provide compensation. That’s where liability insurance comes in. In fact liability insurance is worth having even if you’re found innocent as legal costs can be high.
The point is that by investing in liability insurance, you can ward off any liabilities you might incur due through your actions. Basically it’s good value - the premiums payable on liability insurance are fairly minimal compared to the damages that could be awarded as part of a liability settlement.
Liability insurance covers legal liability for damages and legal costs arising out of third party loss, injury, or damage in connection with power kiting, kite buggying, kite landboarding and kitesurfing. The policy also covers member-to-member liability and goods sold or supplied. Unlike many policies the cover also applies whilst you are taking part in organised events and competitions.
