Solo Launch

Solo Launch

This technique requires some practice and will only work on fairly smooth ground.

IMPORTANT: Do not attempt it if the ground is rough or if sharp objects may damage the kite. Do not drag your kite on the ground - it may damage the material.

Step 1

Start with the kite inverted and with the wind blowing slightly from your left. Note: the right-hand side of the kite is on your left. Make sure the line to your right hand crosses over the other one just once.

With the flight strap around your wrist, reach forward and grab this line (use gloves to protect your hands) so that the right-hand side of the kite is pulled towards you and there is a loop of slack line from your right hand (A).

Step 2

Keep the line to your left hand nearly tight and hold it low (B). Give a sharp pull on the right-hand line (C).

Providing the ground is fairly smooth, the right-hand side of the kite will flip over the left-hand line (D).

Step 3

The wind will catch behind the trailing edge and turn the kite the correct way up, with the right-hand tip at (E) ready to launch.

Note: with the wind coming slightly from your right, this technique can be used in a similar way to flip the kite in the other direction, keeping the line to your left hand above the other one.
